Kiwanis Club of Winthrop Projects and Programs

Some of our community programs and projects for 2018-20 include:
- Facilitating the formation of the Winthrop Family Activity Park’s continued progress
- The Fund-a-Dream project provided funding for tools for the LBHS Construction Trades trailer
- Assisted an elderly homeowner with wildfire assessment, prevention, and cleanup efforts in conjunction with Methow at Home and local ‘Firewise’ efforts.
- Funding and support for the “Be The Change” (break the cycle of generational poverty) program
- Provided labor and materials to construct another Classroom In Bloom storage shed. We also provided labor to build a new fence and expand the outdoor garden areas.
- Provided funding to Friends of the Winthrop Library to purchase children’s books
- Conducted a Cider Press with donated apples for the Cove’s Food Bank
- Upgraded and improved Winthrop Barn facilities
- Donated funds for scholarships for Missoula Children’s Theater
- Repaired storm-damaged Methow Recycles Shed
- Funded and built the fence at Jamie’s Place to give residents privacy
- Provided funding for the Methow Community Theater Kids Program
- Supported SIGN, an international surgical implant bone repair program
- Supported local volunteer firefighters at the Scott Stair Climb for Lymphoma and Leukemia
- Recognized twenty-two LBHS Graduates for Community Service
- Supported Our House for Cancer Care program
- Provided logistic support for the operation of the LBHS Junior Class “Close Up” raffle
- Funded and worked the Tye-Dye T-shirt booth at the Arts in the Park on July 4th
- Provided financial support and volunteer labor to “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”
- Awarded $14,400 in Scholarships to LBHS Graduates
- Conducted Highway Litter Cleanup on Hwy 20 South of Winthrop twice a year
- Provided porta-potties for Kiwanis Heckendorn Park
- Provided volunteer labor for repairs and enhancements to the Shafer Museum
- Purchased portable microphones for Methow Valley Community Theater
- Sponsored LBHS Key Club and offered financial support and volunteer labor
- Sponsored LBJH Builders Club and offered financial support and volunteer labor
- Provided and decorated Christmas Tree for the Winthrop Barn
- Supported FireWise program to help reduce community wildfire dangers
- Supported 4-H Club livestock sales at the Okanogan County Fair
- Volunteered as Tutors at LBHS
- Provided Financial support to the “Eliminate” project to prevent maternal and neonatal tetanus
- Provided volunteer assistance at LBHS Track and Cross Country meets
- Helped the Methow Valley Snowmobile Association fund Christmas Dinner at the Barn
- Provided volunteer assistance at LBHS Football, Soccer, and Wrestling events
- Provided $1500 to send LBHS Athletes to Football Camp
- Funded ILC Graduation Dinner
- Provided $500 to help support the Chautauqua visit to the valley
- Provided $250 for Methow Valley Riding Unlimited scholarships
- Provided funding for the Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program
- Provided financial support to the Children’s Miracle Network
- Provided setup, support, and cleanup for local Blood Drives
- Provided volunteer labor to serve lunch at Hank’s Senior Appreciation Luncheon
- Provided supplies and volunteers to assist preschool & grade school Vision & Hearing Screening
- Provided funds for students to have follow-up Eye Exams and Purchase Eyeglasses
- Financial support, volunteers & photos with the Easter Bunny at Winthrop City Park
- Provided financial support to the cove for the Friday Food Program
- Provided volunteer labor for Pearrygin Lake State Park and Twisp Works Bike Rodeos
- Provided funding to support the “Family Empowerment Program” in the MV School District
- Sponsored the Merc Children’s Theater
- Provided financial support to the Room One Pool Pass Program
- Provided financial aid to support the ILC Mentor Program
- Provided Santa photos, candy canes & children’s activities for Christmas at the End of the Road
- Supported Kiwanis Outreach funding of Key Club Activities
- Supported attendance of four Key Clubbers and advisor at the District Convention
