A way to serve.
A place to connect.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. At the Kiwanis Club of Winthrop, members improve children’s lives. We take part in community service projects. We raise money for great causes. And we enjoy the company of friends and fellow leaders. Come join us!
Founded: Kiwanis was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1915. It was initially a business networking organization, but eventually changed their focus to community service.
Mission: The organization’s primary mission is molding good kids into exceptional adults. Kiwanis offers programs that teach leadership skills, the importance of community, and community responsibility.
Annually Kiwanis sponsors around 150,000 projects that cover a wide spectrum of services and raises over $100 million for their communities.
Members: Kiwanis is one of the few organizations that offers membership to almost all age groups – from elementary school students to adults. Combined, there are approximately 600,000 members in 8,000 clubs throughout 96 countries.
Fun Fact: The name Kiwanis is borrowed from a Native American phrase, “Nunc Kee-wanis,” meaning “We trade” or “We trade our talents.”
Winthrop Club: The Winthrop Kiwanis Club was established in 1949 and has been in continuous operation ever since. The Winthrop Club currently has 32 members who come from throughout the Valley and contribute over 2,700 volunteer hours to the community. Each year the Club holds four fundraisers to support a wide variety of projects. We are proud of the fact that 100% of the net proceeds from our fundraisers go back into helping kids and the community.
Our club meets at the Winthrop Barn every Tuesday morning at 7:00 AM. Please come join us for breakfast sometime.
